VIDEO: “I’m a pro, I’m a professional,” said Dothan Leisure Services Program Coordinator Shaliyah Foxx when asked if she was good at fishing. “If anyone wants to have a fishing tournament, I’m the one.” “I wouldn’t say I’m an expert fisherperson,” said Sophie Skipper when asked the same question. Youth Fishing Day brought out families to see if they could catch a big one. “There was one group of a dad and three young boys who caught five catfish a piece,” said Dothan Police Officer Garett Lisenby. “Every time I would walk by, they’d be like ‘We got five each!’” While all are welcome --- fishing may not have been an option for some of these campers. That’s why the Dothan Fire and Police Departments took them shopping at Academy Sports to pick out their own fishing gear. They used their $50 gift card to scope out the best gear to hunt some catfish.
