VIDEO: A major fire gutted a vacant two-story building in downtown Bessemer Friday. Located next to United Textiles on 2nd Avenue North, the Bessemer Fire Department was called out to the scene around 11:40 a.m. It took firefighters several hours to get the flames and hot spots completely under control. The fire chief said there were some carpets being stored in part of the building which burned. No one was injured and United Textiles' owner fears there was some smoke and water damage to their inventory. The home decor store has been in business in the heart of Bessemer for four decades.
