Alabama state and local fire crews are issuing a safety warning as dry and windy conditions could cause wildfires to spread out of control.
We've seen wildfires spread quickly before in Mobile and Baldwin County, and firefighters work tirelessly to stop the flames from reaching homes and property.
The risk for a similar scenario is high, and it's something the Alabama Forestry Commission hopes to prevent.
"We're unseasonably dry. For the next couple of weeks, we have very little chance of rainfall. This time of year, with the cooler temperatures, everybody wants to get outside and do things. We just urge caution," said Rickey Fields, a Baldwin County Forester with the Alabama Forestry Commission. Fields said Hurricane Ian's projected path into Florida could make things worse because it will likely suck moisture from the air and create strong wind gusts in our area.
