The Tallassee Fire Department and the Firehouse Subs Foundation are very well acquainted.
For the second time in five years, the fire department received a Firehouse Subs Foundation grant — this time to purchase 10 new sets of turnout gear. The new equipment will replace protective gear that’s more than 10 years old and worn down, ridden with rips and holes.
“This turnout gear was manufactured in 2007,” Tallassee deputy fire chief David Rogers said. “You can see the use, the wear, the rips, tears and everything that goes into the use. You can see the 15 years of use.”
Rogers said the old turnout gear was well beyond the recommended time for moving to new equipment.
