VIDEO: Monday was a big day for an Adamsville 7-year-old! In fact, it was his day.
Skyler Simmons was given an award from the Adamsville Fire Chief after he saved his family from a house fire on April 24. Skyler was up late at night when he realized his house was on fire. He ran to wake up his mother so she could call 911, get his siblings and they could all make it out safely.
"He always tries to do things for me and his little brothers," Skyler's mother Whitney said through tears. "For him to do that and get that award, that means a lot to show hey, it wasn't overlooked son. You did a good job."
Skyler also had the opportunity to throw out a first pitch at a recent Birmingham Barons game.
In honor of his heroic actions, Monday was designated as "Skyler Simmons" day in the city of Adamsville.
