The city of Ashford broke ground on a new project that has been 12 years in the making.
A new fire station is on tap for Ashford to help improve response time in emergencies.
This new station will be located in the Ashford Industrial Park on the south side of the train tracks. The train is an obstacle the department has been dealing with when responding to calls causing the response to be delayed at times. The new station will help alleviate that problem.
“We have a major railroad that runs through the middle, and more than once, a train has delayed responses and delayed our care and firefighting abilities,” Ashford Fire Chief, Jimmy Pose said. “Our number one station is downtown. This gives access to everything out on 84 with a quicker response.”
This project was a collaboration involving the city of Ashford, Houston County, the Wiregrass Electric Cooperative, Powersouth Energy, Alabama Senator Donnie Chesteen, and Alabama Representative Paul Lee.
