A man has died and his wife is in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire late Friday afternoon, according to Birmingham Fire and Rescue. The fire department said heavy fire and smoke was coming from the home on Northwood Drive when crews arrived. When crew members entered the home, the fire department said the victims were both found inside and taken to the hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
