Jasper firefighters were recognized during Tuesday’s Jasper City Council meeting for their actions in preventing what could have been a catastrophic event.
Two weeks ago, an 18-wheeler hauling cattle burst into flames while sitting at the gas pumps at Love’s Truck Stop just off Interstate 22. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and found the truck fully engulfed in flames. They were able to quickly extinguish the blaze to prevent what could have been a deadly explosion.
“I like to recognize our people who do exemplary work,” Mayor David O’Mary said, “and we have great people working for this city.”
“With that 18-wheeler on fire, next to a fuel dispensary, it could have been disastrous,” he added. “You think about all that could go wrong in this situation.”
O’Mary and council members praised the firefighters for their efforts.
