VIDEO: After nearly a week, James and William Montiver’s dogs, Cassie and Alani managed to hang on long enough for rescuers to find them after their home collapsed during the deadly landslide in Ketchikan. According to the city of Ketchikan, a geologist heard some whimpering leading the fire department to try and rescue the dogs. KFD Firefighter Jason Kynsi shared the process they went through to try and get them. "We just worked our way in the interior checking spots, calling out for the dogs." After some digging and crawling through debris, they managed to see the glint of one of the dog's eyes. "It was super exciting," shared KFD Firefighter Crystal Schleiff. "I was elated. I got a really high-pitched, excited voice. I was like, oh my god, I found the dog, and I see eyes, and they're blinking."
