La Crosse area firefighters collected donations for muscular dystrophy research and support programs through their annual Fill the Boot campaign. Local 127 firefighters set up at the intersection of 4th Street and La Crosse Street to collect donations from passing motorists and pedestrians.
The fundraising effort continued until 5:30 p.m. Monday and resumed Tuesday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. All money raised goes toward muscular dystrophy research, care programs and summer camps for those affected by the condition. “You get a good group of people to come out, this is off duty on everyone’s own time and people are busy but it’s nice to see them come together for the same cause,” said La Crosse firefighter Erin Statz. The Fill the Boot campaign represents a long-standing tradition among firefighters nationwide since 1954.
