Holmen Area Fire Department called to tree cutter fire near high school

The Holmen Area Fire Department was dispatched at around 12:30 p.m. Thursday to a tree cutter fire off Briggs Rd. near Holmen High School’s Football Field. Crews were developing the land for residential construction at the time of the fire.

The operator of the tree cutter used a fire extinguisher to put out the initial fire. However, the fire quickly grew and caused the tracked tree cutter to sustain major damage. The fire was under control within 30 minutes of the initial call. La Crosse and Onalaska’s fire departments were dispatched to the fire, but called back due to no nearby exposure concerns and a nearby fire hydrant. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
