VIDEO: Kaukauna firefighters issued a warning overnight to put a freeze on fires as we get into these colder months. The Kaukauna Fire Department responded to a late-night fire Tuesday on E. Tobacnoir St. that was caused by a wood stove.
Flames were starting to come through the roof of a detached, 2 1/2 stall garage as firefighters arrived. It took 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Two vehicles in the garage were a total loss, but firefighters were able to protect the home and nearby buildings. Damage is estimated at $50,000. More importantly, no one was hurt.
Firefighters are using this as an opportunity to remind others to keep combustible materials and other flammable items a safe distance away from all heating sources. That includes wood stoves, furnaces and space heaters.
