Firefighters rescue iguana from tree in La Crosse

VIDEO: You’ve heard of firefighters rescuing a cat up a tree–but what about an iguana? That’s exactly what happened Tuesday morning in La Crosse, according to a Facebook post from the city’s fire department.

Engineer Troy Glasel with the LCFD tells News 8 Now that while an iguana and its owner were outside sunning, the owner fell asleep. When he woke up, he found that his iguana had climbed 45 feet up into a tree. “The owner claimed that if the iguana wasn’t removed, it would stay up there and die,” Glasel said. “We used Quint 2’s aerial ladder to retrieve it.” Glasel operated the ladder while Firefighter Tyler Hoerres gave directional signals to Captain Andrew Formanek, who climbed the ladder and brought the iguana back to safety. “No two days are ever the same,” the fire department’s Facebook post reads. “Thatโ€™s part of the challengeโ€”and the joyโ€”of serving our community.”
