A Fond du Lac County home was seriously damaged in a fire Monday afternoon. Authorities received a 911 call around 1:15 p.m. reporting a fire on Lori Lane in the town of Waupun.
First responders arrived on scene and found the southwest corner of the house fully engulfed in flames. No one was inside the residence when the blaze broke out.
Initial investigation determined the fire originated on the exterior of the residence and spread upward along the side of the structure to the roofline. Near the corner where the fire started, investigators observed a chimney pipe for a pellet stove.
The homeowners reported the pellet stove was in use at the time. Officials believe a spark may have escaped from the stack and ignited dry leaves around the exterior of the home.
