Dog dies in fire that severely damaged two Ashwaubenon homes

PHOTOS: A dog died in a fire Wednesday that seriously damaged two Ashwaubenon homes. Just after 3:45 p.m., crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the 1200 block of Skylark Lane for a reported garage fire. When first responders arrived on scene, they found an attached garage fully engulfed in flames, which were spreading to the home’s living areas. The fire had also spread to a neighboring home, due to its proximity to the engulfed garage. Firefighters extinguished the blaze at the initial house within 30 minutes, but due to the fire spreading to the attic of the neighboring house, it took an another 30 minutes to extinguish that fire.

Crews were on scene for about two hours checking for hot spots and additional fire spread. No residents were inside the home where the initial fire began, but a dog inside the residence did not survive. The resident inside the neighboring home safely evacuated. Officials say both home sustained “significant damage.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brown County Fire Investigation Team.
