Range Fire in Idaho prompts evacuation notices after burning 8,000 acres

Fire crews are battling a fast-moving wildfire burning south of Boise that prompted evacuation notices Thursday evening, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Idaho reported. The Range Fire has burned more than 8,000 acres as of roughly 12:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1.

Residents in the area along South Pleasant Valley Road and West Thompson Road were advised to evacuate around 7:45 p.m. Thursday, July 31 due to the Range Fire. People located between Pleasant Valley Road and Interstate 84 south of Blacks Creek Road were also encouraged to prepare to evacuate if needed, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. The agency handled evacuations and shared alerts as the fire spread.

“Crews are making good progress tonight actively attacking the fire, working to slow its spread and protect critical areas,” BLM Idaho Fire wrote on social media. “Suppression efforts are focused on active flames. Radio traffic is positive, and incident commander is confident that firefighting tactics are proving successful.”

The fire started at the Orchard Training Center, quickly grew, and pushed northwest, BLM Idaho Fire told KTVB. Crews working the fire early Friday morning included four engines, two dozers, one overhead resource and a water tender. The cause of the fire has not been determined. No injures have been reported.
