Unique training opportunity for Huntington Fire Department

VIDEO: A rare opportunity for the Huntington Fire Department and other first responders has come about for the first time in nearly 15 years. The CSX training cars, once fully operational train cars, are now used to give first responders a chance to practice in the event of a real-life train disaster. HFD Deputy Chief Brian Grieco said there are only two of these training cars in the country. โ€œThis is stuff thatโ€™s coming through the city, we have a lot of the railroad, I mean, itโ€™s Huntington,โ€ Grieco said. โ€œThis allows us to do the training so that we can provide that response capability to both the citizens and visitors to the city of Huntington.” This three-day training included classes on the different types of train cars, first responder knowledge, and hazmat response. While the fire department hopes they donโ€™t have to put this training into practice, theyโ€™re also grateful for the opportunity to learn and prepare in the event that it does.
