Kingwood VFD worked for 13 hours at pellet plant fire

Seven volunteer fire departments were called to Kingwood after a fire broke out at the Lignetics Pellet Plant overnight Wednesday.

According to an update from the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department, at least two buildings and some equipment were on fire when first responders arrived at the plant, formerly known as Appalachian Wood Pellets, around 11:32 p.m. on Wednesday.

The release said that a three-sided structure, maintenance building, shed, trailer, storage area and other miscellaneous items were on fire, and there was smoke coming through the pipes into the main plant.

After additional crews were called, the fire was deemed under control at 4:11 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Kingwood Fire Department. Crews from the Albright, Terra Alta, Tunnelton, Oakland, Bruceton Brandonville, and Aurora volunteer fire departments returned to service between 2:30 and 5:30 a.m.
