Mullens Fire Department gets funding to help construction of new building

VIDEO: A local fire department is getting some help in the construction of their new fire department building.

Mullens Fire Department announced on their Facebook Monday that they received $1.5 million from West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito.

Fire Chief Justin England said he is ecstatic given plans for the new building have been in the works for the past few years.

He went on to add the new building has become a huge priority, especially after the current building suffered damages from the February 2025 floods.

โ€œItโ€™s just great. She followed through, she made a promise. She followed through for us and we canโ€™t be any happier. Senator Capito is a great lady, she really came through for the community of Mullens and we really appreciate her,โ€ England said.

England is still hoping doors to the new fire department building can officially open in late 2026.
