History is made for Alderson Volunteer Fire Department with first female fire chief

The town of Alderson is buzzing with excitement about the newest chief at the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department. On Monday, June 30th, 2025, Mayor Travis Copenhaver swore in Lisa Vandall as their newest chief. It was a special moment for Copenhaver, who has known Vandall for a long time. Vandall takes over the role previously held by Frankie Jones. Jones recently retired after decades of service but will assume the role of assistant chief. Vandall is no stranger to Fire or EMS. She served as an instructor for both for most of her career. This appointment also marks a historic moment as Vandall becomes the first female fire chief in the departmentโ€™s 116 years. When asked about her goals, Vandall said she wants to focus on the town itself and getting more volunteers into the door.
