Man hospitalized for burns on 15% of upper body after rescuing dog in Everett fire

PHOTOS: A man was hospitalized with burns after saving his dog during an early morning apartment fire on Friday, the Everett Fire Department reports. The fire broke out shortly after 2 a.m. at a structure behind the D & J Market, located at the corner of Broadway Ave. and Euclid Ave.

Firefighters from Engine 5 were first on the scene and found a working fire in a small shop with living quarters. The injured man tried to extinguish the fire himself but was overwhelmed by the flames. He managed to rescue his dog before firefighters found him outside. The man was initially taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett and later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

He is in stable condition, receiving treatment for burns covering 15% of his upper torso, arms, and face. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes of the initial 911 call, preventing it from spreading to the adjacent grocery store.
