Firefighters believe extension cord may have contributed to Kennewick shed fire

A large response to a reported house fire in Kennewick temporarily shut down traffic on a section of a busy road on Thursday afternoon. According to Kennewick Fire Department Chief Michael Heffner, at about 12:28 p.m. on October 30 KFD heard a report of a house fire at a home on south Edison Street near Fourth Avenue. Multiple units from KFD, Kennewick Police Department, and other responders arrived to find a shed on the property had caught fire.

Firefighters and police shut down the section of Edison Street near the home for a while as they worked to put out the fire. Firefighters said the response was slightly complicated by the presence of flammable materials including oil and gas in the shed, which were removed after the fire was brought under control. The fire was extinguished with no injuries reported within 10 minutes of firefighters’ arrival. Firefighters said no one was home at the time of the fire.
