Fire crews rescued a hiker who was pinned under a tree and suffered injuries near Bridal Veil Falls Saturday, just before noon. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 11:40 a.m. and encountered high winds that had already knocked down several trees, with more continuing to fall. The dangerous conditions made reaching the injured hiker difficult, as multiple fallen trees blocked the trail.
Firefighters used chainsaws to clear a path while others carefully made their way through the debris. Once the first firefighter-EMTs reached the patient, they secured him in a basket for transport. As additional trees continued to fall near the rescue crews and the patient, firefighters worked quickly to carry him to safety through the newly cleared trail.
The hiker was transported by medic unit to the hospital. Officials say the rescue took place under extremely hazardous conditions, but crews successfully completed the operation without further injuries to the patient or firefighters.
