Employees evacuated when fire at Spanaway business spreads to brush

PHOTOS: A fire at a commercial building in Spanaway spread to nearby brush and caused the closure of a highway Wednesday morning. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue (CPFR) posted about the fire on X at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday. All employees evacuated the building in the 21200 block of Mountain Highway East/State Route 7. The highway was blocked in both directions while crews worked to put out the fire. At 10:21 a.m., CPFR posted that the fire was under control. Crews remained in the area to monitor hotspots in the building. CPFRโ€™s crew 6, seasonal wildfire apprentices, were also at the scene monitoring hotspots in the brush. West Pierce Fire and Rescue assisted with the fire.
