Burdoin Fire now considered 5% contained as wildfire nears 11,000 acres in Columbia Gorge

PHOTOS: Firefighters are gearing up Wednesday to return to fighting the Burdoin Fire, a nearly 11,000-acre wildfire that has forced evacuations near Lyle, Washington in the Columbia River Gorge. The Burdoin Fire broke out July 18, and fueled by strong wind and dry conditions, it has grown to 10,973 acres. It is considered 5% contained as of Wednesday morning, fire officials said. With the fireโ€™s current behavior and uncontrolled fire lines, the Northwest Incident Management Team is expecting to keep the current evacuation orders in place for the next 5 to 7 days.

They will continue to evaluate conditions to potentially reduce those levels, and you can find an interactive map of the orders. Firefighters are making progress in keeping the flames from spreading around the communities, officials said, and they are continuing their efforts to extinguish heat sources around homes and structures. SR-14 is still closed between Lyle and Bingen. Old Highway 8, Highway 142, and the Lyle Snowden Road are also closed until it is safe for emergency crews to reopen them.
