Virginia Swift Water Rescue Teams join Texas flood response

VIDEO: In response to catastrophic flooding in Texas, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced the deployment of two Virginia Type III Swift Water Rescue Teams to support ongoing recovery efforts. The teams, based in Bristol and Virginia Beach, will depart for Texas on Monday, July 7, 2025. The teams are equipped with specialized watercraft, technical gear, and rescue tools designed to navigate dangerous floodwaters. Their mission will include conducting water rescues, searching impacted areas, and supporting local emergency personnel working in the disaster zone. The flooding has caused extensive damage across parts of Texas, prompting multiple emergency declarations and the need for out-of-state assistance. โ€œOur hearts go out to the families and communities in Texas who have been devastated by these historic floods,โ€ said Governor Glenn Youngkin.
