Several buildings, 50+ cars a complete loss from Hampton fire, firefighter taken to hospital

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Several buildings at a Hampton salvage yard, along with more than 50 cars, were destroyed in a Monday afternoon two-alarm fire, according to a Hampton fire official. Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum with the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue said the fire was caused by workers grinding and breaking down car parts, which triggered a small fire that quickly grew. Chittum said a firefighter was taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion, and the salvage yard buildings are complete losses Crews were battling the fire for much of Monday afternoon. Large fire and smoke could be seen coming from the facility near West Queen Street and Settlers Landing Road. WAVY 10 viewer Doug Hall captured video of the blaze and crews on scene.
