Ruptured fuel tank leads to car explosion in Arlington parking lot

VIDEO/PHOTO: A scary situation in an Arlington parking lot was caught on camera Thursday morning. A car erupted in flames, damaging nearby vehicles, but no one was seriously hurt. According to a spokesperson for Arlington Fire and Rescue Services, firefighters were called to the area of 33rd Street South and Crystal Drive just before 11 a.m. for a report of a vehicle fire that spread to nearby vehicles. Ashley Christman caught the moment the car exploded in the parking lot. Firefighters say the explosion happened due to a ruptured fuel tank. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the fire marshal, who says the explosion does not appear suspicious. Arlington firefighters reminded residents to leave car fires to the professionals because things can go from bad to worse quickly. “Please leave car fires to the professionals as things like this can occur. Get out, stay clear, and call for help,” the fire department said on social media.
