Resident found dead, firefighter injured after Roanoke County house fire

A resident was found dead in the aftermath of a house fire Saturday night, according to Roanoke County Fire & Rescue. Fire crews were called at 10:23 p.m. August 16, 2025, to the 1300 block of Goodwin Avenue. They found flames on the second floor and brought the fire under control in about an hour, according to the department. Fire crews say one occupant of the home was found deceased. No name has been released and there is no word yet on cause of death. One firefighter was injured and has since been released from the hospital. The fire department says the fire is not believed to have resulted from foul play. The damage estimate is $200,000 and the fire remains under investigation.
