Suspicious camper fire in Lowell under investigation

According to authorities, the Lowell Volunteer Fire Department extinguished a camper trailer on fire Monday afternoon. State police now believe the fire is suspicious.

The fire was first reported after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, with the camper located on Vermont Route 58 โ€“ Hazen Notch Road, near its intersection with Monteith Road. Lowell firefighters were able to put the fire out; as nobody was in the camper, no injuries were reported. Lowell Fire Chief Gerard Nick contacted Vermont State Police to look further into how the fire started, and their preliminary assessment is that the fire was โ€œthe result of direct human involvement.โ€

Anyone with information is directed to call Detective Sgt. Clark Lombardi of the Vermont State Police, Derby Barracks or the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program.
