The Bennington Police Department is investigating the cause of a fire at a three-story residential building at 708 Main Street.
Crews responded to the building just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. It took two hours to get the fire under control. The Bennington Fire Department and supporting crews, Bennington Rural Fire, were still on scene. Hoosick Falls Volunteer Fire Department in New York also assisted.
Crews say Vermont Route 9 will remain closed for several hours. A 65-year-old woman was injured while fleeing the fire. She was transported to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and is being treated. She is expected to be okay. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
