Fire engulfs semi trailer hauling tires on southbound I-15 in Millard County

Thick, black smoke and flames were billowing from a semi trailer that caught fire and forced the closure of I-15 in Millard County. The fire happened Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. on southbound lanes, about a mile south of Scipio. Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said the semi caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the trailer, which was hauling tires. There were no reports of injuries. Southbound lanes were completely blocked. Traffic was diverted off the interstate at Scipio. The left lane was opened around 5:40 p.m. Drivers were urged to pass the area with caution and expect delays as the traffic backup thinned out. Northbound drivers were slowed as many drove through the thick smoke.
