VIDEO: Even with recent rainfall, wildfire season has arrived in Texoma, and Wichita Fallsโ Assistant Fire Marshal gave some pointers on how residents can keep their homes safe. He said that wildfires not only affect rural residents, but those who live in cities, too.
โWe ask that the community do keep the vegetation down and off of those buildings to where if it dries out or when it dries out when fire is introduced to those environments that itโs not directly impacting that structure,โ Assistant Fire Marshal Jared Burchett said.
Assistant Fire Marshal Jared Burchett said that there are some safety measures for residents to keep in mind, such as evacuating and being aware. โThe big thing is that if itโs within your residential zone we ask that you evacuate by having civilians or individuals in that area while weโre trying to engage in the fire obviously itโs a more dangerous situation because not only are we dealing with fire but now weโre dealing with the human life impact of the fire in the smoke environment,โBurchett said.
The main thing that Burchett informs the community is to stay prepared and have that escape plan in mind. โWe ask you to be prepared and have a to go back just like you would in any natural disaster wildfire is a natural disaster, is a very weather driven event and so being prepared in the front end so that when a fire occurs you can escape and be prepared in the back end of it is the key,โ Burchett said.
