VIDEO: Fire Chief Gary Young will retire Sept. 23 after 36 years of dedicated service to the City of Copperas Cove, officials announced. Fire Chief Young began his career with the city on Sept. 23, 1989, serving in multiple roles before being promoted to fire chief on Feb. 6, 2023.
Throughout his time with the department, he worked to guide them through the sustained growth of the force and the city, while maintaining operational readiness and maintaining strong community relations. The City Manager for Copperas Cove, Ryan Haverlah, praised Young’s contributions to the department and community. “On behalf of the City of Copperas Cove, I want to sincerely thank Fire Chief Gary Young for his 36 years of dedicated service to our community,” Haverlah said. “His leadership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public safety have left a lasting impact on the department and the citizens of Copperas Cove.”
