Van Alstyne breaks ground on new dual police, fire station, with themed playground next door

VIDEO: The city of Van Alstyne is investing in the safety of itโ€™s citizens. โ€œWe didnโ€™t build a City Hall first, we built a public safety building first,โ€ Van Alstyne Police Chief Tim Barnes said. โ€œSafety is the number one priority for the city.โ€ On Thursday, the city broke ground on a new $30 million public safety building that will house the police and fire departments. โ€œIt just lays the foundation for the future and how we serve our own community,โ€ Van Alstyne Fire Chief Ryan Dockery said. โ€œIt strengthens us.โ€ The 47,000 square foot building will include a crime lab, jail facilities, an upgraded dispatch center, and training space. It will sit right along Highway 5, giving first responders a quick way to get where they need to go. โ€œItโ€™s paving the road for our growth and how weโ€™re going to proceed,โ€ Dockery said.
