Lubbock Fire Rescue implements new dispatch system, shortening response time

VIDEO: Lubbock Fire Rescue has started using a brand-new dispatch system called Pheonix G2, which helped cut down their response time. Before they used the Ztron system, which required dispatchers to enter call information manually.

Assistant Fire Chief of Operations Nick Wilson explained how much they had implemented the new system so far. โ€œPlanning has been ongoing for several years now, but weโ€™ve just started within the last couple of months of doing the installations. Weโ€™re about three fire stations that are fully implemented into the process, and weโ€™re going through about one fire station a week; theyโ€™re able to do the install,โ€ Wilson said.

Before, dispatchers had to manually enter the call information in, go to a separate console to press a button for each station that was going to page out and then give out that information over their microphone. The new system eliminated the need for the dispatcher to perform all of these tasks, saving time for responding, according to Wilson.
