Longview City Council approves hiring of new fire chief

VIDEO: Longview City Council has unanimously approved the hiring of their new fire chief, Greg Grimes. This hiring comes after former chief JP Steelman retired back in March, and Andy Parker took over as the interim chief. City Manager Rolin McPhee says the city looked nationwide for their new chief. He says that Grimes had high praise across the state from not only fire, but also police crews. He also has experience working with Longview in the past. โ€œWhen you get that sort of vetting statewide, and he has experience with our tactical teams and experience with members of the Longview Fire Department,โ€ said McPhee. Grimes comes from the Allen Fire Department where he worked for 32 years, including a stint as their assistant fire chief. He also worked to develop their Special Operations programs.
