Killeen Police, Fire Departments welcome boy back home after beating cancer

VIDEO: Texas police officers and firefighters are used to fighting crime and fires, but last week in Killeen, they came together to celebrate a child who fought a different kind of battle, cancer. The Killeen Police Department said on Friday, Aug. 29, members of its Community Engagement Unit and members of the Killeen Fire Department welcomed home Charles, a young cancer survivor, who had just rung the bell after being declared cancer free.

The two departments reportedly worked with Charles’ parents to help him celebrate the big occasion. “Charles, your bravery and resilience are an inspiration to us all,” Killeen PD said in a post on social media congratulating the young survivor. “As you grow older, we hope you’ll consider a career with the Killeen Police Department, where we value strong individuals like yourself. That being said, we’d also be OK, if you chose to pursue a career in firefighting. The Killeen Police Department would also like to acknowledge the Warrior to Warrior Program, serving children and teens battling cancer.”
