Fire destroys longtime family-owned tire shop in southwest Houston

VIDEO: A Houston family is relieved no one was hurt when a fire tore through a massive warehouse in southwest Houston. The fire started just before midnight Friday along the Southwest Freeway near Fountain View Drive. Off of Star Lane, just a block away, you can see the damage to nearby buildings.

โ€œThis is where the employees have lunch, this was the break room,โ€ Christopher Leon said. He works at Rolloโ€™s Solutions — managing the website for his parents’ business, which has been operating since 1989. Leon has many memories inside the tire, wheel and body shop, starting at their first location on Richmond and Chimney Rock. โ€œWhen we were over there, thereโ€™s photos of me as 2 or 3 years old in a tire, rolling around. Back when I was 18, I started the inventory system,โ€ Leon said. He was home when he learned about the fire. The familiesโ€™ stock of used tires was burning for hours from Friday night into Saturday morning. โ€œApparently, tires are the worst thing to catch,โ€ Leon said.
