VIDEO: As temperatures rise in South Texas, the Corpus Christi Fire Department is eyeing technology that would help protect its firefighters from one of their biggest threats on the job: dehydration. The department is looking into a wearable sensor called H-Drop, a device designed to report real-time hydration levels when put on. Fire officials say the tool could be a game-changer in preventing heat-related illnesses, especially during the intense summer months. “Measure your hydration so that if you’re a little below, stay away from the coffee, stay away from the energy drink, and start drinking that water,” Assistant Fire Chief Tony Perez explained. He tells us staying hydrated is key to doing the job successfully, and it begins before the shift. The technology could allow firefighters to catch early signs of dehydration before it impacts their performance or safety.
