VIDEO: While Brazos County isnโt currently under an active burn ban, College Station Fire Chief Richard Mann says residents should still be mindful of their outdoor activities. Anything with a heat source can be risky during the dry summer months.
โWhether we are or not [under a burn ban], everybody needs to keep a real close eye on any outdoor burning to keep from having any incident,โ said Chief Mann. He told KBTX, firefighters often respond to calls at the side of the road. โIt can be something as simple as somebody with a chain thatโs dragging on a trailer and those sparks get thrown offโฆ Somebody throws out a cigarette butt,โ Chief Mann offered in example. โI mean, any of those things will immediately start a wildfire.โ If you get a flat tire, Chief Mann warns drivers be careful not to pull over and park on dry vegetation, as your tire and the rim can get hot enough to spark a fire.
