College Station Fire Department lists hidden fire starters

VIDEO: While Brazos County isnโ€™t currently under an active burn ban, College Station Fire Chief Richard Mann says residents should still be mindful of their outdoor activities. Anything with a heat source can be risky during the dry summer months.

โ€œWhether we are or not [under a burn ban], everybody needs to keep a real close eye on any outdoor burning to keep from having any incident,โ€ said Chief Mann. He told KBTX, firefighters often respond to calls at the side of the road. โ€œIt can be something as simple as somebody with a chain thatโ€™s dragging on a trailer and those sparks get thrown offโ€ฆ Somebody throws out a cigarette butt,โ€ Chief Mann offered in example. โ€œI mean, any of those things will immediately start a wildfire.โ€ If you get a flat tire, Chief Mann warns drivers be careful not to pull over and park on dry vegetation, as your tire and the rim can get hot enough to spark a fire.
