College Station Fire Department Conducts Mass Casualty Training

VIDEO: The College Station Fire Department put its training to the test Thursday performing a mass casualty simulation. Using the old Macyโ€™s at the Post Oak Mall, firefighters simulated a plane crash dealing with debris, shouting and injured passengers. CSFD firefighter Grayson Brock emphasized the need to do simulations like these.

โ€œThese scenarios are really important because we need to practice stuff before it becomes a real-life scenario,โ€ Brock said. โ€œGetting to have that firsthand experience of โ€œIโ€™ve actually done this beforeโ€ rather than it being the first time when it actually does happen.โ€

Preparing for high intensity, low frequency events can be hard to simulate but the fire department prioritizes the trainings conducting multiple throughout the year. Firefighters worked to help cardboard cut-out passengers, attending to their injuries and deciphering the severity of each. Richard Mann, CSFD Chief, explained all of what the training entails.
