3-year-old dead, 4 remain hospitalized in northwest Harris County house fire, officials say

VIDEO: A 3-year-old is dead and at least four people are hospitalized after a fire broke out at a home in northwest Harris County overnight, according to the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department. It happened in the 6800 block of Redding Springs Lane just after 3 a.m. Sunday.

Officials said crews were dispatched to the home and were met by neighbors telling them that there were people in the house. Firefighters rushed in, but were met with burglar bars. Firefighters described the bars as an “issue” but said they eventually gained entry and found a woman and a child on the second floor. Officials said both were unconscious, and CPR was administered. They were taken to the hospital, where they regained consciousness and were said to be in critical condition. According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, authorities confirmed that the 3-year-old child died at the hospital in a Sunday evening update.
