VIDEO: Two firefighters were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a roof collapsed while they were battling a two-alarm house fire in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside neighborhood. Officials with the Fort Worth Fire Department said they started receiving calls at about 10:50 a.m. about a house on fire on the 200 block of South Williams Street, near Vickery Boulevard and South Freeway southeast of downtown.
The first firefighters arrived within five minutes, and the first mayday call happened just two minutes later, according to Craig Trojacek, the public information officer for the Fort Worth Fire Department. Trojacek said a firefighter was trapped in the garage after part of the home collapsed. The mayday call triggered a second alarm to ensure they had enough personnel to take care of the fire and the injured firefighter.
