VIDEO: A fire at Northlake Apartments claimed the life of a resident and left four others injured late Saturday night, August 2. At around 11:30 p.m., the Memphis Fire Department (MFD) responded to a call reporting heavy flames coming from the apartment building, located at 3777 Epworth Road.
Fire crews initiated an interior attack and conducted a rapid search of the building, evacuating 20 residents. While half of the evacuees were able to exit the building on their own, five required assistance, and at least one was found unconscious. Four residents were taken to local hospitals for medical care, according to MFD. Two are in critical condition from smoke inhalation, while two others are in non-critical condition after being treated for shortness of breath. MFD confirmed that a resident was pronounced dead at the scene, but the cause of death is still pending review by the Medical Examiner.
