A triplex apartment building in Portland is still standing thanks to the great efforts of the Portland Fire Department, who arrived quickly and contained the fire to just one room in the triplex. The apartment complex is located at 118 West Market Street, with the first call coming into 911 at 11:15 p.m.
The fire was contained to a single room within one unit. Though the apartment will need repairs before it is livable again, the damage was kept to a minimum, and the adjacent units were unaffected and remain livable. The affected unit sustained fire, smoke, and water damage, but it is a far cry from total destruction. Fire crews were on the scene for about an hour and a half, clearing the location at 12:45 a.m. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though according to Portland Fire Chief Sam Thornton, it appears to be accidental.
