The Memphis Fire Department (MFD) determined a house fire in the Medical District Monday afternoon was arson. MFD responded to the fire in the 100 block of N. Bellevue Blvd. at a three-story wood-frame residential structure.
Fire officials said the property was vacant and unoccupied at the time. According to MFD, the fire started in the stairwell between the second and third floors. Officials said a couch was the first item ignited. MFD said there were no working smoke detectors in the home. Damage to the structure was estimated at $100,000, with no content loss reported, fire officials said. No one was injured and there were no exposures, officials said.
