Crash, fire closes I-40 W near Farragut for hours

PHOTOS: I-40 West near Farragut was closed for hours Thursday morning after a car fell from a tractor-trailer, causing a crash and fire, according to Rural Metro Fireโ€™s Jeffery Bagwell. No one was hurt in the crash, which happened around midnight at the nearby truck scales, but it did cause a fire. That fire prompted hours of cleanup, Bagwell said.

โ€œThere was not a driver for the vehicle as it had fallen from a truck while in transit,โ€ Bagwell said. โ€œThe fire was extinguished, but cleanup was extensive and took an extended period of time.โ€ The Tennessee Department of Transportationโ€™s Mark Nagi said the interstateโ€™s westbound lanes didnโ€™t fully reopen until 5:45 a.m.
