Rapid City firefighters raising money for a charitable cause

VIDEO: Rapid City firefighters are taking part in their annual โ€œFill the Bootโ€ fundraiser this week, raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters began standing outside of department stores and grocery stores around the city Wednesday, asking people passing by to help fill their work boots with cash.

Muscular Dystrophy Association Director Elizabeth Nelson described the disease. โ€œItโ€™s usually a weakening or progression of the disease in the muscles,โ€ Nelson said. โ€œSo, people start to lose their abilities to do certain things like walk, swallow, speak, things like that.โ€

Nelson mentioned Rapid Cityโ€™s Fill the Boot fundraiser is typically the second-most substantial of its kind each year – only falling short of the funds raised in Minneapolis. Thursday and Friday, you can find firefighters outside of Rapid Cityโ€™s Walmarts, Family Fares, the west side Safeway, and Samโ€™s Club if you would like to contribute.
