VIDEO: The third season of โhydrant block partiesโ kicked off in Rapid City on Wednesday. These events not only keep kids cool and entertained but also keep the community connected, especially the first responders and local youth.
โWe want to make it a fun environment for everybody, and we want them to know that when you see a firefighter or police officer or anyone in the community out and about, we want them to feel comfortable enough to go up to them and say โhey, Iโm lostโ or โI need helpโ and we want them to build that encouragement and not be afraid of them,โ said Rapid City Parks & Recreation specialist Lindsey Myers.
The free event featured fire hoses, squirt guns, and smiles, all made possible through various city departments. โWe work with the fire department, police department, and we got the library involved and solid waste involved, just something for the kids to get out, have fun, burn some energy, be out in an open space, see what other parks we have to offer, learn about that park and just enjoy it,โ said Myers.
